July 7th 2010, The American Center Debate Club invites anyone interested in speaking, analyzing, and discussing hot topics in a friendly environment to attend this meeting! We will discuss a modified format of debate and we will focus on identifying fallacies (inaccuracies) in your opponent’s argument. Debate Club will also target pronunciation and building speaking confidence.

Speaker: Prof. Tuong Vu, Department of Political Science, University of Oregon
As a Vietnamese American, Prof. Tuong Vu will share with you his overview of U.S. – Vietnam bilateral relations over the past 15 years, including important milestones and achievements, as well as challenges and perspectives for the future of the relationship. Prof. Tuong Vu teaches comparative politics and conducts research on the politics of Southeast Asia at the Department of Political Science, University of Oregon. Prior to that, he taught at the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, CA, and was a visiting fellow at the Asia Research Institute of the National University of Singapore. Please come and join us to learn more about this ever-strengthening bilateral relationship!

Presentation: Youth Advocacy and Sustainable Development

The American Center invites you to learn more about U.S. youth advocacy and what you can do to find opportunities in Hanoi! Danielle Maniscalco, Summer Fellow at the U.S. Embassy Hanoi, will share the U.S. youth perspective of sustainable development and the activities and networks they have created to get involved in education and policy-making. The presentation will include information about U.S. higher education programs in sustainable development and a discussion of the tools and components of effective youth organizations. Danielle has a masters degree from Columbia University in International Affairs and Energy Management and has been a member of SustainUS, a U.S. youth network for sustainable development.
